Hypnosis is a fascinating subject that has captured the hearts, minds and imaginations of people for centuries. It is a much-misunderstood phenomenon and has an air of mystery, and even today in our scientific and rational age there is still much ignorance surrounding this subject. If you are reading this, then it's my intuition that you are an open-minded person and you are hoping that hypnosis can help you in an area of your life. Maybe you want to quit smoking, or lose some weight; you may have a fear of public speaking, or desire more confidence in your life, or you simply could be curious about what hypnosis is and how it can be used to better your life in a more general way. All these are excellent reasons to continue reading… The Hypnotic trance The hypnotic trance is a perfectly natural state that we often enter into repeatedly throughout the day. It is similar to daydreaming. Have you ever watched a great film and got so carried away with the action to the point where you lost all track of time and almost forgot where you were? Most of us at some time or another have experienced a beautiful day with that special person or with good friends only to find the day sailed by and seemed to only be a few minutes when in reality it was a several hours. Those of you who drive a car – have you ever arrived at a place and wondered how on earth you got there? All these are examples of the trance state. Whenever we seem to go on automatic pilot or allow your thoughts to wonder and wander then you are in the land of trance. The hypnotic state then is not the same as sleep; in hypnosis you are wide-awake enough to watch a film or drive  a car, and yet it is clear that though you are in full control of what's going on in your environment it is different from normal waking consciousness. The Practical Art of Hypnosis A hypnotherapist is a person who uses this trance state to help bring about therapeutic change. It is said that a person is much more suggestible in hypnosis thereby the job of the practitioner is two-fold: to assist the client to facilitate trance and then to make positive helpful suggestions to help enable the client to positively benefit and make the changes they long for. An example here may be useful. Say you want to stop smoking then the therapist would relax you and help you to begin to enter the daydream-like state of trance and then make some helpful suggestions that you no longer wished to smoke anymore and once those positive suggestions had been accepted by that part of you that is capable of making such changes and adjustments (the subconscious) then the hypnotist would pop you out of trance safely back into the fully wakened state of consciousness you were in before you came for your session and off you would go having experienced the opportunity to feel deeply relaxed and pleasantly happy and optimistically looking forward to helpful positive changes for your life ahead.  Why not say YES to HYPNOSIS!
